General information and properties:
The essential oil of Geranium from Egypt, also called "Pink Geranium", especially in France is known for its skin care properties in cosmetic and dermatology treatments, acting as a tonic and astringent. Its molecular content gives it many other attributes in the field of health. Rich in citronellol and geraniol, this oil has a broad anti-infective spectrum against bacteria, fungi and mites. Geraniol is one of the most effective antimicrobial monoterpenols in aromatherapy. In addition, it is IMMUNOSETIMULANT. Citronellol has significant anti-infective activity.
Scientific studies of this essential oil show moderate antibacterial activity, antistaphylococcal (Staphylococcus aureus) activity even against resistant germs, and significant antifungal activity, especially in combination with classic medicines. It shows efficacy against germs involved in uro-genital infections: Atopobium vaginae, Gardnerella vaginalis, Bacteroides vulgatus, Streptococcus agalactiae, Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, Candida parapsilosis, Candida tropicalis, Bacillus cereus. With Escherichia coli, geraniol demonstrates positive control activity analogously to thymol and carvacrol contained in Thyme and Oregano essential oils.
Geranium essential oil inhibits the concentration of white blood cells (polymorphonuclear neutrophils) in an inflammatory focus. This essential oil has a calming and anti-inflammatory action on the skin, mucosa and joints. There is research considering its use for the prevention of inflammatory respiratory diseases, such as asthma. This oil helps to alleviate excessive inflammatory reactions that manifest in arthritis crises, rheumatoid polyarthritis or colitis and in case of skin mycosis or dermatitis, oral inflammations such as stomatitis, mucositis, glossitis or aphthosis. In facial treatments it is used topically on facial skin, as a cleanser, astringent, tonic and anti-wrinkle. Facial pain and dry skin.
