Elettaria cardamomum
Plant Organ: Seed
Optimal ranges of biochemical composition of a good pure and chemotyped essential oil of Cardamom:
- Terpenyl Acetate 32 - 45%
- 1,8-Cineole (Eucalyptol) 23-35%
- Linalyl Acetate 4-9%
- Linalool 3-7%
- Limonene 2-7%
- Sabinene 2-5%
- Alpha-Pinene 1-2%
- Alpha-Terpineol ≤7%
- Terpinen-4-Ol 0.8-3%
- Trans-Nerolidol 0.5-2%
General information and properties:
Terpenyl acetate acts on the nervous system in the processes that trigger spasms, competing with the molecules responsible for the contraction of smooth and striated muscles, so this essential oil allows suppressing or attenuating muscle spasms and associated pain. 1.8 cineole or eucalyptol is recognized for stimulating the glands of the respiratory mucous membranes and allows fluidizing the secretions, favoring their expulsion from the respiratory tract. Additionally, 1,8 cineole has anti-infective properties. In the presentation of the properties of the essential oils of Eucalyptus Globulus and Eucalyptus Radiata, more information appears related to 1.8 cineole, the majority molecule of these two essential oils. Cardamom essential oil is especially indicated against intestinal parasites (helminths).
